Milan Fashion Week: Blugirl F/W 2011

Time for my latest fashion crush: Blugirl – fancifully flirty offspring of the acclaimed Blumarine label designed by the fabulous Anna Molinari.

After drooling over their completely covetable Spring/Summer offerings (think vintage pin-up in cotton candy baby-dolls, polka dots, florals…essentially a Lolita love-in of epi-cute proportions) I have been dying to see their take on Fall 2011…and what a take it is!

Drop-dead gorgeous feminine tailoring with an anarchic mix of retro references and super-chic layering all served up in a 70’s twist on the autumnal palette – think watermelon and ecru with flashes of punchy orange.

Styling steal – ribbed oatmeal mid-calf socks (usually the preserve of Granddads)  and cutesy mary janes; shouldn’t work but so does (and offers a work-friendly alternative to the sandal/sock trend which has been doing the rounds of late).

Check out the s/s lookbook over at becomegorgeous.com or head over to ELLE.com for the full f/w collection (no, really, do).

All That Glitters…

Gold. Gold. Gold!

Midas and his roving hands have been having a field-day this season with the fruit of their school-boyish labours in resplendent evidence catwalk-wide…

PPQ Fall 2010

Marc Jacobs Fall 2010

High gloss Lame, Lurex knits, sequined and gilded applique added a touch of razzle-dazzle to collections across the fashion board from head-to-thigh body-armour at Balmain to gilt-glam trenches at PPQ and if the life-sized-Oscar look isn’t for you, never fear! Trim, filigree, shoes, accessories – gold is the accent colour this season…there is literally no end to the ways you can work (and rework) this trend…

Gotta Take the Rough With the Smooth…

Continuing the more is more theme of Spring’s print clash attack, the shift from summer to autumn is all about piling on the texture. Mix, don’t match should be your mantra for some slap-bang on-trend cafe intellectual meets sex siren chic.

Oscar de la Renta Fall 2010

From ultra-lavish velvet to sheeny-shiny silk and beyond into deshabille denim, crumpled chiffon, spangle-tastic sequins, gentle jerseys and luxe leathers (yes, I am ‘on one’, and by one I mean a self-indulgent post-modifying lexical binge… it has been – as great Aunt’s and Grandparents are oft heard to mutter – ‘too long’), rework the big trends of spring with a side order of grunge…column skirts and DM boots? Yes. You. Can.

Costume National Fall 2010

Pair leather with your lace, wool with your chiffon and inject some autumn glamour with shearling a la that Burberry Prorsum Aviator or a little bit of Oscar de la Renta-esque fur-hemmed extravagance, and a seasonal palette update of gilded pumpkin, russet and (mmmmm) chocolate.

Look du Jour: MeOWza

Hitchcockian goddess Kim Novak…

After a summer of blousy pastels and girly minimalism f/w 2010 sees the return of an altogether more dark, sophisticated (and somewhat austere) elegance – think of Hitchcockian heroines Ingrid Bergman and Kim Novak with an 80’s twist; cool, coiffed and tailored to perfection; polished glamour belying a seamy and often murderous undercurrent…

Emilio Pucci Pre-Fall 2010

Dolce & Gabbana Pre-Fall 2010

Lanvin Pre-Fall 2010
Statement is the buzz-word when it comes to prints this season…forget the chintz, the ditz and the itty-bitty florals. It’s time to come over all Dan Dare and temper your beauty with a sizeable dollop of danger…rework the season’s strong austere silhouettes with animal prints a la Emilio Pucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Lanvin (no we are still not over them…and we have Alexander Wang’s s/s wedges to thank – profusely).

(I know it’s wrong – and probably illegal in some countries – but I am quite literally in love with these Forever21 metallic leopard print leggings as worn by Ania B!!!)

Lula Loves…and so do we

UK fashion magazine Lula is celebrating its 5th birthday this month in its own inimitable style (gently kitsch, sugary-sweet…roll out the soft focus, add a wash of dreamy haze and stir in some guileless sexuality…) with a Lula Loves pop-up shop in collaboration with the colossus of retail aristocracy Harvey Nichol’s.

The store – designed and produced by Fiona Leahy and curated by Lula founder Leith Clark –  features a selection of Clark’s (soon to be your) favourite things including one-off pieces by Rodarte, Erdem, Charles Anastase, Miu Miu, Lover and Sonia Rykiel, some insanely covetable cult archive revivals (notably the Miu Miu glitter shoe) as well as a selection of books and music from the renowned artist/ writer/ film maker Liz Goldwyn and the insanely talented illustrator Daisy de Villeneuve along with other illustrious members of the Clarkian inner-circle (Derek Blasberg, Melissa Auf Der Mauer…)

The whole set up, found in the newly opened concept space on the fourth floor, is sheer Lula magic – a celebration of the ethereal, whimsical and beautiful. Well (I’m not sure how much I can stress this!) worth a visit, even if it is only to briefly exchange the non-stop monotony of the real world for a nostalgic jaunt through a sigh-provoking wonderland.
In fact I love it so much I’m considering relocating from my beloved E2 to planet Lula.

Images with profuse thanks to Style Bubble; click through to view more Lula gorgeousness (one of these days I shall get my hands on a half decent camera) and/or for the inside scoop (plus pics) on the launch night head over to Fashion Bite.

The Lula Loves pop-up shop is open in-store and online until the 1st August.

Louboutin’s Little Book of Shoe Porn A/W 2010

Louboutin’s a/w lookbook just minced provocatively into my inbox flashing its trademark scarlet soles (oh, I do love it when that happens) and has quite literally thrown me into raptures. And who am I to deny the shoe-loving public, the fetishists and the fashion-hungry their fix of the latest offerings from the Captain of cobblers, the suzerain of shoedom, the head honcho of heels? No. I simply couldn’t do that to you. So here it is…

Head over to cocolee.com to see more of the range (no really, do) sans the very beautiful, visually stunning, yet slightly distracting, set designs).

Now. Leave me to drool in peace.

Manolo for Liberty Fall 2010!!!

Contain my excitement?! Not likely…

Hot on the heels (do excuse the pun) of yesterday’s Kirkwood x Liberty post comes the news of another designer shoe collaboration from London’s fashion fairy godmother…and this time it’s the incomparable Christ of cobblers Manolo Blahnik working miracles in the design seat – phew, my tootsies are all a tingle!

If, as Belinda Carlisle is oft heard wailing to half empty discotheque dance-floors at 1am, ‘heaven is a place on earth,’ I’ve a strong feeling that place would be the ethereal treasure-filled paradise that is Liberty’s – not some godforsaken holiday resort lorded over by hellish beings in red coats with faces forever frozen in a rictus grin so terrifying even the blind are reduced to tears. So, on behalf of shoephiliacs the world over – Thank You Liberty!

The – don’t-call-it-a-pop-up-shop – ‘World of Manolo’ hits Liberty’s on the 10th of September and is open to worshippers for 3 months…a definite ‘dear Santa…’ if ever there was one!
